Compare and contrast two aspects of international theory of realism and idealism.

International relations theory is a study of international relations in the theoretical perspective. It endeavors to provide a conceptual framework upon which international relations can be analyzed. Realism and idealism are the example of the international relations theory.
The similarities between Realism and idealism.
Both idealism and realism, as theoretical terms, deal with the relationship between our minds and the world. Idealism is the view that things exist only as ideas, with no reality as material objects outside of the mind. Realism is the view that objects exist in themselves, independently of our consciousness of them.
Political realism and political idealism vied as conceptual rivals for understanding international relations, for analyzing the decision-making of inter-state actors, for qualifying what policies should or should not see the light of day, and for justifying or criticizing the kinds of policies that went forward from each other’s camp.
The contrast between Realism and Idealism
Realism or political realism is a school of thought that defines international relations in terms of power while idealism is a school of thought that explains international relations that emphasizes on international law, morality, and international organization ( power is not the only key that influences on international events). (Goldstein, 1999)
Idealist think that human nature is basically good so that human possess good habit, education, and appropriate international structures, it can become the basis of peaceful and cooperative international relationships. Idealist see the international system as one based on a community of states that have the potential to work together to solve mutual issues. In contrast, the realist defines human is selfish and see the international system as one based on Anarchy system. (Goldstein, 1999)
